POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the program manager, the Omushkego Youth Wellness Support Worker promotes the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual wellbeing of Indigenous youth living in an urban environment. This role provides culturally grounded support, advocacy, and mentorship while coordinating land‑based and wellness‑focused programming that strengthens identity, belonging, and connection to community. Guided by Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and Indigenous worldviews, the Support Worker helps youth navigate challenges, build resilience, and access culturally safe services.
REQUIREMENTS
- Education in social work, child and youth, indigenous studies, or a related field
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience working with Indigenous youth in community, educational, or social service settings.
- Knowledge of Mushkegowuk cultures, traditions, and the impacts of colonization on youth and families.
- Provide one‑on‑one support, mentorship, and advocacy for Omushkego youth ages 12-18.
- Offer culturally safe, trauma‑informed, and harm‑reduction‑based support.
- Demonstrate respect for Indigenous culture, language, teachings, and community protocols.
- Work experience with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and cultural practitioners
- Strong relationship‑building and communication skills.
- Ability to create culturally safe, youth‑centered environments.
- Program planning, facilitation, and event coordination skills.
- Experience with youth engagement, outreach, and leadership development.
- Required to work outdoors in all seasons for land‑based activities.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends for youth programming.
- Valid G or G2 driver’s license is an asset
