The Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) is seeking an experienced professional to fill the key role of Program Lead – Diabetes Education & Clinical Nutrition.

Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) is the leading health care provider on the western James Bay coast. WAHA comprises of hospitals in Moose Factory, Fort Albany, and Attawapiskat, with a Health Centre in Moosonee. WAHA also provides regional outpatient programs, as well as Paramedicine services in Moose Factory, Moosonee, Fort Albany, Kashechewan, Attawapiskat, and Constance Lake. The span of services, complexity of care needs in the region, and the depth of health integration has made WAHA a leader and a model of health care services in Northern Ontario. WAHA consists of 450 employees, a Physician team, many students, as well as community stakeholders. Position Profile Requirements:
Provide direction and leadership to WAHA’s DEP/Clinical Nutrition program
Collaborate with leadership on staffing needs, as well as budgetary planning
Support day-to-day management of planning, organizing and communicating with clinic
Oversee staff scheduling, as well as staff hiring, orientation and training
Consult with relevant health care staff, as well as external professional organizations and stakeholders, where needed
Provide diabetes/clinical nutrition related in-services to hospital staff and support community engagement events
Carry out all work assignments safely and be knowledgeable of , and in compliance with, relevant policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
Review staff attendance and clinic schedule
Check in with Admin staff regarding referrals received and any outstanding tasks
Participate in clinical rounds
Assist in the planning of DEP monthly coastal visits and Clinical Nutrition Services
Travel to WAHA sites as needed
Lead DEP/Clinical Nutrition specialty clinics (pediatrics, endocrinology, etc.)
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor’s or Masters Degree in Dietetics, Human Nutrition, Health Sciences or Nursing
Registered Dietitian or Registered Nurse
Certified Diabetes Educator or experience in diabetes education
Minimum of two years relevant experience preferred as Dietitian/Registered Nurse Diabetic Educator
